My Nic Nac Box

For this tutorial you will need:

JASC's PSP get it HERE
Tubes of your choice for Decorations and a wood fill of your choice.
If you want to use my wood fill and the tube I used, you may get them HERE

This tutorial was made in PSP7, there should be no problem making it in any other version.
This tutorial only uses filters and effects within PSP.

When you begin this or any other projects, you should save as you go. Start your project and then do a File/Save as and save it to a folder where you normally keep PSP projects. Then save (CTRL S) after every step or so. Saving often really helps cut down on the frustration of losing it when or if those lovely Illegal Operations happen or your 'puter just feels like freezing up!!

1. Open a new image 500x500 transparent background

2. Create a new layer and name it "Slat". Use the Preset Shapes tool, with the following settings...

Set you forground to "Null" and your background to "White"

Draw a rectangle as shown below...

3. Create a new layer and name it "Tip". Again using the Preset Shapes tool, change your shape to triangle. Now draw a triangle on top of your slat as shown below..

Now we don't want to tip of the slat to be so pointed, so Using the Deformation Tool, bring the tip down half way as shown below..

In the layer palette, turn off layer 1, then go Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.

4. Go Selections, Select All, Selections Float. Open the elm.bmp wood fill and Flood fill your selection. Deselect.

To pick the elm.bmp wood fill pattern, click on the small arrow in the Styles box and choose the pattern option.

Click on the Styles box and click on the arrow bar next to the preview window. Find the elm.bmp pattern, set the scale to 100%, angle to 0.

5. Go Selections, Select All, Selections Float. Effects, 3-D Effects, Cutout and apply the following cutout...

Deselect.

6. Duplicate this layer 6 times and arrange the layers beside one another so you have this..

With layer 1 shut off, go Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.

7. Duplicate this layer, using the Mover tool arrange the layers so one layer is to the right and a bit higher than the other. Like this...

8. Create a new layer, using the Preset Shapes tool, set to rectangle, draw a rectangle for the right side. This rectangle should be 3/4 the length of the box. Go Selections, Select All, Selections, Float and Flood fill with the elm wood fill. Deselect. Go Selection, Select all, Seletions Float, Effects, 3-D Effects, Cutout and apply the same cutout as before only change the Opacity to 75. Deselect.

9. Using the Deformation Tool, Hold down the Shift key, move the lower right node up almost until it meets the back post, as shown below..

Go to Layers, Arrange, move down. Using the Mover tool again, move the side in just a tad.

NOTE: if you want to put pens, pencils, paper in your box, this would be the time to do so, before the layers are merged.

10. Create a new layer, name this one rope. Using the Preset Shapes tool set to circle, fill color set to #6c2424, draw a small circle on the side of the box where you rope will appear to be coming through. Using the Rope tub, scale at 25, draw a handle for this box. Be sure to begin the handle on the dark circle we just created as shown below..

11. Using a decorative tub of your choice, paste it as a new layer. In the layer palette, change the blend mode to Multiply. Go Effects, 3-D Effects, Drop Shadow with the following setting..

12. Save your box, you're finished!
