Creating a Seashell Angel

This tutorial uses PSP6 or PSP7 which you can get at  JASC  web site. The files I used in creating this angel is a seashell, the halo tub some wings and a pearl tube for the head, which are all in this  ZIP  file if you like to use them, or you can create your own.

When you begin this or any other projects, you should save as you go. Start your project and then File/Save as and save it to a folder where you normally keep PSP images. Then save (CTRL S) after every step or so. Saving often really helps cut down on the frustration of losing it when or if those lovely Illegal Operations happen or your 'puter just feels like freezing up!!

Open the files in PSP, and open a new transparent image, 400 x 400.
Copy & paste the seashell as a new layer. Adjust towards the bottom, but not to close to the edge.

Using your selection tool, set to rectangle, make a rectangle around the seashell then click on the seashell so you have the marching ants around it.

Add a layer. With the Flood Fill tool, fill your selection with white. On your Layers Palette, set the Opacity to 55. Merge visible.

With your selection tool, make a new selection around the seashell, go to your plugins, Adjust - Variations and change the color of your seashell. I chose magenta for mine. Select None.

Now we needs some wings. You can use any wings you like, I like the ones I chose here. Copy and paste the wings as a new layer. On the layers palette, move the wings layer beneath the seashell layer and adjust so the center of the seashell is aligned with the center of the wings.

This next part was difficult for me as I can't draw freehand to save my...well you know...
Add a new layer. To make my head, I used the ccPearl4.tub. I opened the tub in PSP, and resized by 90%. Then I used the variations filter to change the color of the tub to compliment my seashell. Add your eyes, a mouth and the halo to complete the face.

Add a new layer. Make an oval selection using the preshape tool, set to eclispe, Antialias checked, line width 4. In the layers palette, move this layer beneath the head layer so the necklace is behind the neck of the angel. Add a bead to the center of the necklace or decorate as you wish.

That's it, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
